Hey! So, I'm not only super excited that Pan Am is returning this week, I'm also jazzed that I've found what seems to be a great community of fellow Pan Am fans! I am going to start posting links to Author Profiles on FFN. Generally, they are going to be authors I've found on FFN that have stories I enjoy. If I've missed your story and you would like me to post your link here, just let me know, I would be more than happy to!

Pan Am News
Okay, so I've spent time talking to people and scouring the web for more information. Per ABC's tweet, Pan Am is NOT canceled...yet. They are going to finish the season, which will come to 14 episodes and then, there will be some debate on whether or not they get a second season. I'm sure if there is an increase in ratings, that will help. However, I try not to rely on ratings as in my opinion, they are not entirely accurate. My friend and I were going to start a petition, but I was informed by one of my Twitter-pals that one has already begun. Feel free to give it a look over and please sign and share this link! Petitions for shows have worked in the past. Quantum Leap got an extra two seasons thanks to one. So again, please share! I will be blogging more as I learn more.

So, my first crack at some fanfiction. I hope you enjoy!
Everything started with the held hands and the almost kiss they shared in Berlin. Laura thought after shooting him down once, she would prove too hard a target and Ted would stop trying. After all, Ted liked women who were easy to catch…didn’t he? That’s what she was told, and from the way she saw him go after women, it wasn’t too hard to believe.
But there was something different about the way he pursued her. Laura was pretty sure he wouldn’t have given up his prized Rolex for a casual fling. With those big brown eyes, and adorable grin, he wouldn’t have to do something that drastic to woo a woman into bed.
So what made Laura special? She couldn’t help but wonder as she wandered down to the lobby of the hotel, where she was supposed to be meeting Kate for lunch. As seemed to be her current usual, Kate was nowhere to be found. Laura decided to wait a few minutes, to see if her wayward sister would show up. She couldn’t figure out what the deal was with Kate lately. She flaked out with no explanation and was secretive about her every move. It couldn’t be the boyfriend she was head over heels for, no, Laura distinctly remembered Kate saying that things had pretty much ended between them. So what was it?
“Alone in Paris,” a voice behind her sighed, “what a sad sight.”
Laura whipped around to see Ted standing behind her, hands in his pockets, silly grin on his face. Oh yeah, he was up to no good. “Maybe I’m waiting for someone.” She said, unconvincingly, “besides, you don’t seem to be with anyone either at the moment.”
Ted’s grin faded, “touché,” he shrugged, “so what’s your excuse?”
“Stood up,” she rolled her eyes, “you?”
“Awe hell,” Ted said, in mock defeat, “I just couldn’t seem to find anyone willing to go to lunch with me.”
“I find that hard to believe, Mr. Vanderway,” Laura teased.
“Well,” Ted cleared his throat, “since we both seem to be standing around with nothing to do, why don’t we keep each other company?”
“Over lunch?” Laura asked.
“Over lunch.” Ted nodded.
As they walked down the streets of Paris, Laura couldn’t help but smile at Ted’s feigned innocence. He knew that she could see through the act, so why was he putting it on?
“You’re awfully quiet today,” Ted observed, “something on your mind?”
Oh sure, Laura thought, Kate stood me up and I wound up going to lunch with a man who I can’t figure out. “Just taking in the sights,” she said instead.
“You don’t like me very much,” Ted decided once they had sat down at a little cafe.
“No,” Laura said, “it isn’t that.” She didn’t mean to offend him, “I like you just fine.” It’s just that I can’t seem to read you. She added silently.
“Okay,” he thanked the waiter that had brought them their food, “then what is it? How come you always seem to be avoiding me? Even here. We’re sitting at a tiny table and are in the same tiny air bubble. And yet, you’re a million miles away.”
“So you take my silence as avoidance?” she asked. When he only raised an eyebrow, she sighed. How could she lie to those eyes? “You make me nervous,” she admitted, “I’ve never been good at reading people, and I really can’t read you.”
“Why would you want to read me?” he asked.
“A girl can’t be too careful,” she smiled, the playfulness coming back, “When in the company of a man with a reputation like yours.”
Ted smiled, “and what kind of reputation would that be?”
“We all know how much you enjoy women’s company,” Laura joked.
“Maybe so,” he shrugged, “that doesn’t mean I’m a bad guy.”
“I never said you were,” she said.
“But you want to know why I keep coming after you?” Ted asked. Before Laura could answer, he leaned back in his chair, “if I just wanted a one night stand, do you really think I’d be trying so hard?”
The lighthearted joking stopped and Laura just looked at him, unable to say anything. It wasn’t the answer she’d expected, and she wasn’t sure it was the answer she wanted either.
Ted sat up again, “tell me you don’t feel it.”
“Feel what?” Laura frowned, “the flutters I get in my stomach when you’re close to me? It scares me Ted.”
“Why?” he leaned in closer.
“It’s dangerous,” she whispered, “I can see myself falling for you. It would be so easy. And then what? It would be that much easier for you to hurt me.”
“I could never hurt you Laura,” he said quietly, “I’ve already fallen for you. I just wish I could make you see that.” Before she could protest, Ted slipped a hand behind her neck and pulled her closer to him, finally getting that kiss he had been waiting so long for.
This time, Laura didn’t try to dodge, her heart jumped as his lips touched hers. It was such a quick and unexpected move and she couldn’t help but enjoy it.
It didn’t last long enough for his liking, but Ted knew that a long make out session over a café table would be awkward. Still, for what it was, he enjoyed it, and hoped that Laura did too. From the look on her face, he figured she most likely did. “We should take a walk,” he suggested as he pulled out his wallet and left money on the table.
It wasn’t the most romantic thing to say, Laura decided, but it’s probably a good idea. Though they were seated outdoors, the café had grown increasingly small. An elderly couple seated nearby looked over at Laura and smiled. Of course we had an audience. Laura smiled back, painfully aware that her face was probably turning bright red. She stood and left the café with Ted, wondering where on earth they were going to walk to.
After about ten minutes of walking in silence, Laura realized they were going nowhere in particular. Then her mind started wandering. What if he changed his mind? What if he decided she wasn’t worth the trouble? Maybe he was just pulling her string all along. She glanced at him to see if she could tell what he was thinking, but as usual, it was a mystery to her. His expression gave away nothing, other than the fact that he was thinking.
Strawberries, Ted though, she tasted like those strawberries in her fruit salad. Or maybe she always tastes like strawberries… He looked down at Laura who seemed to be having a silent nervous breakdown. “Are you okay?” He asked.
“Of course,” she lied. I’m always fine when I’m kissed and then met with the silent treatment. “Where are we going?”
“Um…” Ted looked around, “somewhere in Paris?” When Laura laughed, Ted smiled, “there, that’s better. The smile is much more appealing than the panic attack.”
“I’m not having a panic attack,” she stated, “it was just quiet. I wasn’t sure what to make of it.”
“Wasn’t really sure what to say,” He shrugged, “It’s like I’ve waited so long for this moment and now that it’s over-“
“What happens next?” She asked.
“Exactly.”
The conversation again tapered off and they went back to walking in silence. It wasn’t long before they had looped around enough that they wound up back at the hotel. Once in the lobby, they turned to each other, “I’d better get going,” Laura finally said, “the girls and I are going out tonight.”
“Wouldn’t want to keep them waiting,” Ted joked.
“So…” she said.
“So…” He repeated.
“I guess I’ll see you on tomorrow’s flight?” she asked.
Ted nodded. They stood in awkward silence for a few more moments, when Ted finally said, “Have a good night Laura.”
A small wave and a quick turn on her heels and Laura was heading back to the room that she and Maggie were sharing. She still wasn’t sure what to make of the whole afternoon. Ted had admitted to falling for her, and then he kissed her. He kissed her! Did he want to do it again? Was that why he got so quiet? Did he suddenly become shy because he wasn’t sure of what she was thinking? Cubans. She laughed as she unlocked her door, he smelled like Cuban cigars and soap. Whatever kind of soap he uses. For a quick moment, she contemplated skipping out on the girls’ night and tangling herself up with Ted, then realized it probably wasn’t her brightest idea. Maggie would be the first to interrogate her. She opened the door and then leaned back to look down the hall. Ted had just unlocked his door as well. He gave her a quick wave before he disappeared into his room.
Maybe later, Laura thought.

Episode 8: Unscheduled Departure
Original Air Date: 11/13/11
Okay, so how awesome is it that our girls are headed to Venezuela? My brother from another is Venezuelan! Anyway, this episode was a bit different than what we've seen so far. There wasn't as much flashing back and forth in time. Even though I like how they do that, it DOES make it a little bit easier to blog about it!
Wouldn't you know? Ginny made an appearance! But this time, she was slightly less obnoxious. Why? Because it wasn't Ginny the woman, it was Ginny the hurricane! Ted did not miss a beat when it came to teasing Dean.
Laura runs into Chuck, who is taking Sanjeev's spot for this episode. Looks like good old Sanjeev is on vacation! Y'know, I've always wondered if we'll ever learn more about Sanjeev... Anyway, Chuck pretty much starts drooling over Laura...and...what's that? I think maybe we saw a hint of jealousy...does Ted not want competition? He tells Chuck to not even bother, that Laura is waiting for Mr. Right. Haha. Is he trying to be that guy? Still not sure yet, but he definitely is not welcoming competition.
Let's get to Chuck. Not too sure I like him! I dunno, he was just kinda annoying to me.
Maggie is flirting with someone, surprise, surprise. She's trying to get to a yacht party. Of course!
Kate meets a wonderful older gentleman named Henry. Henry is a nervous flyer, who is not enjoying the turbulence. Kate sits down to chat with him so he can relax and feel more comfortable. It seems that it worked! Henry has a smile on his face. And who wouldn't? Kate is so sweet and charming. She finds out that his wife was from Venezuela and they'd always wanted to go, but as it tends to do, life got in the way So even though she was gone, it was time he went. His heart is broken, you can tell by the way he talks about her, Henry loved his wife. Kate's smiles turn to fear when Henry suddenly doesn't feel well, and it turns out he is having a heart attack! Kate runs up to the cockpit and lets Dean know that there is an emergency. With the bad weather and the need to land as soon as possible, Dean goes to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The landing is rough (the lights on the landing strip pop on at the last possible second!) and I was gritting my teeth. I've been through some landings that felt like that! Sympathy pain?
Our crew is greeted by men...in a jeep...with guns. After Colette speaks to them, they find out there is a doctor in town. After giving the men whatever money they have, Ted and Colette are off into town to find the doctor. After driving towards what they hope is the town, Colette is certain they are lost. They come upon two bodies in the road and a young girl meets hails them. She tells Colette she can lead them to the doctor. The girl takes them to the village, and the doctor refuses to go with them. After pleading with him, the doctor finally gives Colette medicine that could help save Henry. Ted and Colette start the trip back, only Colette has also promised to take the young girl with them!
Back at the plane, Kate is trying to keep Henry in good spirits. She tells him about all the places she's traveled. It isn't long though, before Henry closes his eyes and is gone.Ted and Colette are too late.
Dean has discovered another problem. The remainder of the runway has been destroyed and they aren't going to have enough room to take off. He knows that they are sitting ducks if they stay and letting his passengers become hostages is not an option. A plan is made to get rid of as much weight as possible so they can take off on the short runway.
Guess who isn't getting onto that yacht? Maggie's current conquest is enraged that he has to leave his things. Well, most of the passengers are, but he's particularly aggravated and has no problem letting the entire crew know that. Then, when the passengers notice the young girl Colette has brought back, they are even more upset. After an argument with Dean, Colette wins out and they take the young girl as a passenger, much to the dismay of everyone. Kate remembers Henry saying that he wanted to be able to help people, so she knew that he would agree to give up his spot for the girl. He is left with the luggage, Kate says something to him before she is called back to the plane. An apology or a thank you is most likely what it was. I was a little on the sleepy side since I stayed up past my bedtime for this!
The luggage is gone and Dean had made sure to burn off as much fuel as he could. They would have to go to Miami due to the fuel loss. Soon, trucks full of rebels show up. Dean knows that if they don't go now, they are going to be hostages. Chuck is very vocal about his disagreement, saying they are not light enough and won't make it. Finally Ted tells him to shut up! Dean is the Captain and what he says goes! It's an edge of your seat take off, but they make it (what looks like barely!) and are on their way to Miami.
In Miami, Kate puts a call in to Richard to get the Haitian girl some help. To keep Colette from getting into trouble, they all say that bringing the girl on board was their idea. Safety in numbers! Dean on the other hand, is getting his ass handed to him. But, he gets to keep his job, thankfully! He also gets a reward for doing the right thing. A kiss from Colette! The fangirl in me squeed. :) I thought this would never happen!
This episode really left me misty eyed. I hope they don't all start turning on the waterworks for me!

Episode 7: Truth or Dare (is it just me or did they change that title last minute?)
Original Air Date: November 6, 2011
I apologize for taking so long, it's been quite the week. :( The show seems to skip around a lot, which I enjoy, but it makes it a bit difficult for me to jump from subject to subject and even more difficult for the reader to follow. So, I am going to piece it together as best I can.
What to say about this episode? It dealt with one of the biggest issues of the 60's. Racism. So first of all, we open to see a huge shindig at Maggie's place. Quite the party thrower that girl! We notice a good looking sailor eyeing Laura and it kind of seems as if she knows him. However, she dodges him when he comes to talk to her. Later in the evening, as everything is winding down, Laura realizes that Maggie offered the sailor, Joe, a couch to sleep on. Laura seems a little uneasy about the arrangement, and winds up locking the bedroom door.
As it turns out, Joe was a passenger on their latest flight. He and Laura had seemed to share a connection, and before they landed Joe had tried to kiss her, but she dodged. This could explain the behavior at the party at Maggies...
In the morning, the super comes to Maggie's apartment and scolds Laura for the party and notices Joe walk by...he also notices that he happens to be black. He tells Laura that the man needs to leave. Laura agrees, but instead of just kicking him out, she tells him that she wants to go spend the day with him. The two go into the city where they are approached by some men who don't think too kindly of intermingling so to speak. A fight breaks out, and a panicked Laura brings Joe to Kate's apartment. Kate isn't there for long as she is in a rush to leave. Laura treats Joe's wounds and she apologizes and explains that she dodged him on the plane because she was afraid of what people would think. The two share a kiss and all I can say is, it's probably a good thing Kate wasn't there!
On to Kate! In the last episode, Richard had her gathering information on Niko. I think it's fairly obvious that both are falling head over heels...if they haven't already! The two are in bed when there is a knock on the door. Niko is ready to bolt, but Kate laughs when she realizes that it is only her neighbor at the door. She opens the chain lock and the door is thrown open by a couple agents. They take Niko, despite Kate's protests. An angry Kate confronts Richard the next day, but he tells her she doesn't have to worry about it.
The tune changes when Niko isn't cooperating. Richard brings Kate in to talk to Niko, who is hurt and questioning whether Kate really cares for him or if she only got close to him to bring him in. The two talk and Kate finds out that what the government wants Niko to do is basically a death sentence to him. It turns out their conversations had been recorded, unknown to Kate, but Niko doesn't believe her. (Can you blame him?)
We don't see Niko again until Kate is about to leave for her next flight. He is accompanied by a couple men, but seems to be okay. He explains to Kate that he is going back to Yugoslavia as a double agent. The two keep their distance, but it is clear, they are saying goodbye...at least for now. Kate is on the verge of tears as he explains how he'll miss his American girlfriend, but he is "walking like a man". Once on the plane, Kate "smiles through it" as she greets their new set of passengers.
So what else? On the flight, the plane was full of sailors, on their way home. In true service-man fashion, it was a rowdy bunch. There were some WTF and some AWE moments to be had. The girls were seen kicking back before the flight and playing a round of truth or dare. Laura admits to taking nude photos with the Life magazine photographer. Kate is seen to disapprove. (And I agree with her!) The girls talk about flying the plane and Laura mentions that Dean seems to be quite fond of Colette and perhaps she could get away with it. We later see Dean let Colette give it a shot! It was such a cute moment, I almost thought he was going to kiss her. I really want to see more of this pairing! I'm glad that Ginny did not make an appearance.
And what of Ginny and Dean? We know that Maggie undoubtedly spilled the beans, but nothing seems to have been done. Like I said though, I'm glad that Ginny didn't make an appearance. She's extremely obnoxious and how anyone with common sense could be attracted to her is beyond me.
I was a little disappointed that Laura was off with Joe. Not that Joe is a bad guy, but I REALLY wanted them to stick to the Laura/Ted story. However, the message that was being sent with Laura/Joe was one that we still seem to need today.
I honestly can't wait for the next installment! It's getting pretty rough waiting a whole week!

As it turns out, Joe was a passenger on their latest flight. He and Laura had seemed to share a connection, and before they landed Joe had tried to kiss her, but she dodged. This could explain the behavior at the party at Maggies...
In the morning, the super comes to Maggie's apartment and scolds Laura for the party and notices Joe walk by...he also notices that he happens to be black. He tells Laura that the man needs to leave. Laura agrees, but instead of just kicking him out, she tells him that she wants to go spend the day with him. The two go into the city where they are approached by some men who don't think too kindly of intermingling so to speak. A fight breaks out, and a panicked Laura brings Joe to Kate's apartment. Kate isn't there for long as she is in a rush to leave. Laura treats Joe's wounds and she apologizes and explains that she dodged him on the plane because she was afraid of what people would think. The two share a kiss and all I can say is, it's probably a good thing Kate wasn't there!
On to Kate! In the last episode, Richard had her gathering information on Niko. I think it's fairly obvious that both are falling head over heels...if they haven't already! The two are in bed when there is a knock on the door. Niko is ready to bolt, but Kate laughs when she realizes that it is only her neighbor at the door. She opens the chain lock and the door is thrown open by a couple agents. They take Niko, despite Kate's protests. An angry Kate confronts Richard the next day, but he tells her she doesn't have to worry about it.
The tune changes when Niko isn't cooperating. Richard brings Kate in to talk to Niko, who is hurt and questioning whether Kate really cares for him or if she only got close to him to bring him in. The two talk and Kate finds out that what the government wants Niko to do is basically a death sentence to him. It turns out their conversations had been recorded, unknown to Kate, but Niko doesn't believe her. (Can you blame him?)
We don't see Niko again until Kate is about to leave for her next flight. He is accompanied by a couple men, but seems to be okay. He explains to Kate that he is going back to Yugoslavia as a double agent. The two keep their distance, but it is clear, they are saying goodbye...at least for now. Kate is on the verge of tears as he explains how he'll miss his American girlfriend, but he is "walking like a man". Once on the plane, Kate "smiles through it" as she greets their new set of passengers.
So what else? On the flight, the plane was full of sailors, on their way home. In true service-man fashion, it was a rowdy bunch. There were some WTF and some AWE moments to be had. The girls were seen kicking back before the flight and playing a round of truth or dare. Laura admits to taking nude photos with the Life magazine photographer. Kate is seen to disapprove. (And I agree with her!) The girls talk about flying the plane and Laura mentions that Dean seems to be quite fond of Colette and perhaps she could get away with it. We later see Dean let Colette give it a shot! It was such a cute moment, I almost thought he was going to kiss her. I really want to see more of this pairing! I'm glad that Ginny did not make an appearance.
And what of Ginny and Dean? We know that Maggie undoubtedly spilled the beans, but nothing seems to have been done. Like I said though, I'm glad that Ginny didn't make an appearance. She's extremely obnoxious and how anyone with common sense could be attracted to her is beyond me.
I was a little disappointed that Laura was off with Joe. Not that Joe is a bad guy, but I REALLY wanted them to stick to the Laura/Ted story. However, the message that was being sent with Laura/Joe was one that we still seem to need today.
I honestly can't wait for the next installment! It's getting pretty rough waiting a whole week!

Episode 6: The Genuine Article

Okay, have I mentioned it enough yet? I HATE Ginny! Even if Dean WASN'T going to have a thing with Colette, did he have to pick Ginny? Ew. Not only is she some other man's whore, she's just obnoxious. We open up with her and Dean, apparently continuing to sleep...er sneak around behind Mr. Henson's back. Why? Oh God, I don't know. Mr. Henson can have her.
Now, Miss Maggie. She is coming VERY close to losing her job due to her stunt at the weigh in...along with other such violations she's committed in the past. So the girl has a little problem with authority. Don't we all? Anyway, she is about to be grounded from the Rio flight, but reminds her superiors that she is fluent in Portuguese and replacing her last minute would be close to impossible. She manages to stay on the flight, but that doesn't mean she is off the hook!
Kate however, IS grounded due to missing vaccination records. She realizes that Richard is the reason for the error in paperwork. When she goes to meet him, she is given her next assignment, spying on Niko. The two seem to have formed quite the relationship. (And really, I think they are just adorable) But Richard needs to know what side he's on and what he plans to do upon his return to Yugoslavia. Kate is hesitant to take the assignment, because she cares about Niko, but who can say no to Richard?
Remember how Laura was on the cover of LIFE Magazine? Well, now they want to do a follow up. Our Laura is being followed around by a pesky photographer, who wants her to model...but look natural. It's hard to hide, when you're on a plane with nowhere to go! Maggie comes to her aid, but part of me is wondering if she isn't trying to get a little PR for herself as well... She talks the photographer into following them around Rio instead of making Laura nervous on the plane.

A surprised Dean asks why she forgot to mention it when they were together the night before. He seems a bit irritated with her. She hangs out in the cockpit for a portion of the flight, and the longer she is in there, the more annoyed Dean looks. What is on his mind? When they get to the hotel, he tells her that Rio is an accident waiting to happen and despite the fun they had, he will not risk getting caught. Last time must have been too close of a call huh?
So, there were a lot of Maggie moments! She seems to be quite the smooth talker! She takes some advice from a trucker and leaves her job as a waitress in Tacoma (Hey, I used to live there!) and gets a job in the registrar's office at a University (Woohoo Berkeley!) We see her first run in with Pan Am, a stewardess who needs to drop a class because her job doesn't allow the time for it. After looking at the drop slip, Maggie decides not to waste the class. In fact, it seems as she is starting to take up a bunch of dropped classes that interest her! She does really well according to the Professor, but is in a lot of trouble for her actions. We next see her smooth talking her way into a job with Pan Am.
Back in Rio, Laura and Maggie are shopping and wind up getting into trouble when it turns out some of the items they purchased are stolen. When they wind up at the police station, Laura tells Maggie to talk to the police. Maggie comes clean and lets her know that she doesn't speak Portuguese. Ted winds up coming to the rescue, but the victory is not without a cost. Laura is extremely angry with Maggie for being a "fake".
Back into the spy game, Kate enjoys the day with Niko and actually winds up getting a lot of information from him on where he stands politically. Richard doesn't seem to be done with the matter though. Niko has left to try and help his cousin who is in a lot of trouble with the government and apparently there will be more to come when he returns to the U.S. It seems that Kate is pretty upset about having to do all this behind Niko's back, I think she is falling in love (if she isn't already there!)
Rio was an uncomfortable trip for Dean, and who can blame him? He was stuck having dinner with Mr. Henson and Ginny. Personally, I think Ginny was kind of catty with Colette. Especially when she spoke French. I don't care if Ginny and Colette DID say the exact same thing, it sounded very beautiful coming from Colette and not so much coming from Ginny. The discomfort doesn't end with dinner. Dean is approached by Ginny in the cockpit after they have landed back in New York. Apparently, Ginny has fallen in love with Dean. (I let out an audible, "oh please" even though the dogs were asleep and couldn't hear me!) Maggie seems to be just within earshot and all I can think is, "I hope she's not going to do what I THINK she's going to do!
Before Maggie goes to her meeting to discuss her employment, she talks with Mr. Henson. Now, we aren't privy to hear what was discussed, but we all know exactly what went on. Maggie gets to keep her job, but at what cost?
This episode wasn't exactly my favorite. Too much Ginny/Dean, not enough Dean/Colette or Ted/Laura. I dunno, it seems like so far, several stories will start, but then just drop and go in another direction. I'm hoping they pick up again sometime soon as there are several things I would like to see pan out!

Episode 5: One Coin In A Fountain

Okay, so, up until now, I've been wondering what Laura did with her engagement ring. My question was answered when this episode started out with her trying to get it back, only to find that it had been sold. Her pleading falls on the deaf ears of the pawn broker.
So, our gals are on their way to London! The first thing I notice is that there is tension between Laura and Ted. My mind starts turning from the start. What could he have possibly done that was so horrible that Laura doesn't even want to speak to him? Is he going to have to go to my "Character Hell", a place where former favorites do unforgivable things and get shoved to the bottom of my list? I guess I'll just have to see how it plays out!
I'm going to say it right now. I did not like Ginny from the moment she set foot into the cockpit. Kate doesn't seem to care much for her either! The chatty woman is looking for Jujubes (hm...seems to be Ted's favorite too!) and takes an immediate liking to Dean. Ted makes a great, personal sacrifice and gives Dean a box from his Jujube stash to give to the flirtatious passenger.
Wow, Maggie has managed to find another gorgeous, hunk of man! Niko Lonza. Who, turns out to be part of Kate's next assignment! Mr. Anderson lets Kate know that she needs to make sure Niko is "uninterested" in Maggie so that he will invite Kate to a casino in Monte Carlo instead. Apparently, a friend of Niko's is dating a Russian spy and Kate needs to get her fingerprints! How will this pan out? I'm certain Maggie will not give up so easily!
Later at a club, Kate uses her skills playing pool against Niko. She definitely impresses him, but Maggie does NOT seem impressed! On the flight later, Maggie makes sure that Kate doesn't have any time with Niko!
Ginny is also on the flight, and as it turns out, her and Dean had quite the time in London. As it ALSO turns out, she is the mistress of a PanAm exec! Did I mention I didn't like her? Turns out, her connections don't deter Dean as they continue their fun in Monte Carlo and ALMOST get caught when Dean loses his hotel key!
So what's going on between Laura and Ted? She seems so angry! We're taken to a few days ago, when Ted finds out that Laura is headed to Harlem. He goes along to help her out and learns all about her sprint from the altar! Anyway, the make it to the pawn shop, where Laura tries to barter for her ring back. She wants to make things right between her and Greg so they can move on. Ted feels like the man is trying to take advantage of her and interferes with the deal that was about to be made. Ted and a VERY angry Laura leave the shop where she beats him with a record and tells him, it wasn't about the money, it was about making things right. She takes off for a taxi leaving Ted all by himself.
Back to Kate and Maggie. The two strike a deal, giving Kate the pleasure of two and a half weeks of made to order eggs in first class. But Kate is free to go after Niko! (Even though, as we find out, Maggie never had a date with him to begin with!) Kate, decked out in a gorgeous dress, once again catches Niko's attention and he invites her to the casino. It isn't long before his friend and his date join them. When Kate notices the woman is wearing gloves, she has to think fast and when they are getting drinks, she is sure to get red wine. Which turns out to spill right on the woman's gloves! Kate manages to get the woman to grab a glass with her bare hands, slips the evidence into her purse and continues to enjoy the rest of her night with Niko.
Laura is still upset about losing out on the ring. Making a wish in a fountain, she is approached by Ted, who FINALLY makes her stop and talk to him. It turns out, that while she was avoiding him, he had the ring the whole time! When she asks how he managed to get the ring, she discovers he traded his Rolex with the musician for the ring. This was one of my "awe" moments! What kind of a guy trades his ROLEX for a girl? I really hope this means there will be more of these two. :)
We arrive back in New York, Richard is waiting for Kate and seems impressed with her accomplishment! She leaves him to go to Niko who is at a hot dog vendor. Uh oh. Isn't that taking your work home with you Kate? I wonder what Richard would think about that?
I was a bit disappointed that Dean would go after Ginny, who is obviously skanky! Colette looked a little jealous when she saw our illustrious Captain flirting with the woman. From the previews, it looks as if Ginny is going to be with us a little longer. I hope it isn't to long!

Episode 4: Eastern Exposure
Original Air Date: 10/19/11
This is another one of my top episodes. It's very Ted-centric and he is really starting to become one of my favorite characters. It's funny, at first I wasn't sure if I'd like him and now he's climbing that ladder into my tops!
So, here, we see poor Kate trying to get her sister to hurry up. While yelling up to Laura, who is still at the apartment, Kate is approached by Richard (who I can't see as anyone else but Chase from Army Wives LOL) and as Kate tries to explain what happened, he reminds her that she needs to follow orders and if they can't rely on her, she is useless to them. He gives her another assignment to meet a contact in Rangoon, causing a quick thinking Kate to let Laura know to bring her swimsuit instead of her mittens.
We next see our girls lounging about by the pool, when they catch the attention of some Navy pilots! (Needless to say, this gal was enjoying the eye candy!) Of course, Ted jumps in to make sure these military guys leave his ladies alone! Then we find out, Ted was a Navy test pilot. (Oh, wow. Does he sure earn some points here! Shallow of me? Yes. But test pilots have guts and that's sexy!) After a flashback, we realize that Ted was in a crash that threatened his military career. Ted states the plane had a mechanical malfunction, the board states they needed to look into it more.
Kate's assignment takes an odd turn when she spies her contact, who gives her a camera and some instructions. After telling Laura she would go sightseeing with her when she returned, she takes off for Jakarta. Laura decides it's a good time to get some R&R, but meets with some of the local wildlife! Maggie quickly comes to the rescue only to be met by a snake in the bathroom. The girls decide it's a good idea to just get out of there!
Kate is stuck waiting for a message from Richard so she can drop off the camera. The guy working at the office is just a piece of work. After waiting for what seems like a better part of the day, she gets her message and then returns to the hotel room for the camera. Once there, she notices that Laura is missing, the room is in shambles and her camera is gone!
Laura and Maggie seem to just be having the time of their lives. I really think these gals are going to be close friends for a long time!
There is a lot of tension between Ted and Dean in this episode. Ted is trying to figure out how Dean jumped the line. Honestly, I wasn't really all too pleased with Dean in this episode. He was exceptionally douchey through the whole trip.
For most of this episode, Ted is trying to fix what seems to be the only television in Jakarta. This is where it gets really fun for me. He's watch the Mercury launch. For most of my high school life and a good part of my adult life, I wanted to be an astronaut. Too bad the eye doctor squashed that plan!
So you can imagine, that my heart dropped with Ted's next flashback. His father is trying to get him to accept the Navy's offer of an honorable discharge, while telling him that Ted was right, there was a mechanical error. However, because he does not want to risk losing his contracts, he refuses to tell the Navy. Ted knows that if he's out of the Navy, he will have missed his last shot, but his father simply tells him that it's over. My heart really did break for him. It really sucks to want something so bad, only to realize you will never get it.
When Laura finally returns, Kate frantically asks if she's got the camera. When Laura says yes, Kate takes it and runs to make her drop, only to find that the doors are locked. A man approaches her, grabs the camera and scolds, "you're late". Kate returns to the hotel and lays into Laura, telling her to "grow up". The two have a fight, causing Laura to run out. Bunny slippers and all!
This has got to be one of my favorite Laura/Ted moments so far. Laura comes down to where Ted is watching the launch. After a struggle with the antenna, Laura agrees to hold it in place for him. There are a couple glances, almost as if the two are seeing each other in a whole new light. So, yes, I'm pretty obsessed with this pairing...if you couldn't tell!
Tensions are high on the flight to Hong Kong. Laura and Kate are obviously still angry with each other and Ted and Dean have an issue over a less than stellar landing. Once everyone is off the plane, Ted and Dean get into a heated argument which leaves our pilot with a nice shiner!
Things are semi-wrapped up when they return to New York. Ted sort of apologizes for the shiner and Dean lets him in on the secret of how he jumped the line.
Kate gets a lecture from Richard for being late and explains that it took forever to get his message. He hands her some pictures that Laura had taken of her and Maggie's night out. Richard tells Kate that they are going to have her sister reassigned, but after seeing a photo Laura had taken of her, she tells him no. Before going home, Kate stops to buy a camera for Laura. When she returns home though, Laura is gone.
So where did Laura go? Maggie opens the door to her apartment and we see that Laura is now going to be staying with her.
Again, one of my personal favorites! I'm left wondering, is the hatchet truly buried between Ted and Dean, or will it sprout up again later? Truly, Ted believes that he belongs in that seat. What does Kate think of Laura moving in with Maggie? Will that last? So far, Laura and Maggie seem to have bonded rather well. I think the two are in for tons of fun in future episodes!
And what of Laura and Ted? I still think they are the most adorable pairing to date. :)

While yelling up to Laura, who is still at the apartment, Kate is approached by Richard (who I can't see as anyone else but Chase from Army Wives LOL) and as Kate tries to explain what happened, he reminds her that she needs to follow orders and if they can't rely on her, she is useless to them. He gives her another assignment to meet a contact in Rangoon, causing a quick thinking Kate to let Laura know to bring her swimsuit instead of her mittens.
We next see our girls lounging about by the pool, when they catch the attention of some Navy pilots! (Needless to say, this gal was enjoying the eye candy!) Of course, Ted jumps in to make sure these military guys leave his ladies alone! Then we find out, Ted was a Navy test pilot. (Oh, wow. Does he sure earn some points here! Shallow of me? Yes. But test pilots have guts and that's sexy!) After a flashback, we realize that Ted was in a crash that threatened his military career. Ted states the plane had a mechanical malfunction, the board states they needed to look into it more.
Kate's assignment takes an odd turn when she spies her contact, who gives her a camera and some instructions. After telling Laura she would go sightseeing with her when she returned, she takes off for Jakarta. Laura decides it's a good time to get some R&R, but meets with some of the local wildlife! Maggie quickly comes to the rescue only to be met by a snake in the bathroom. The girls decide it's a good idea to just get out of there!
Kate is stuck waiting for a message from Richard so she can drop off the camera. The guy working at the office is just a piece of work. After waiting for what seems like a better part of the day, she gets her message and then returns to the hotel room for the camera. Once there, she notices that Laura is missing, the room is in shambles and her camera is gone!
Laura and Maggie seem to just be having the time of their lives. I really think these gals are going to be close friends for a long time!
There is a lot of tension between Ted and Dean in this episode. Ted is trying to figure out how Dean jumped the line. Honestly, I wasn't really all too pleased with Dean in this episode. He was exceptionally douchey through the whole trip.
For most of this episode, Ted is trying to fix what seems to be the only television in Jakarta. This is where it gets really fun for me. He's watch the Mercury launch. For most of my high school life and a good part of my adult life, I wanted to be an astronaut. Too bad the eye doctor squashed that plan!
So you can imagine, that my heart dropped with Ted's next flashback. His father is trying to get him to accept the Navy's offer of an honorable discharge, while telling him that Ted was right, there was a mechanical error. However, because he does not want to risk losing his contracts, he refuses to tell the Navy. Ted knows that if he's out of the Navy, he will have missed his last shot, but his father simply tells him that it's over. My heart really did break for him. It really sucks to want something so bad, only to realize you will never get it.
When Laura finally returns, Kate frantically asks if she's got the camera. When Laura says yes, Kate takes it and runs to make her drop, only to find that the doors are locked. A man approaches her, grabs the camera and scolds, "you're late". Kate returns to the hotel and lays into Laura, telling her to "grow up". The two have a fight, causing Laura to run out. Bunny slippers and all!
This has got to be one of my favorite Laura/Ted moments so far. Laura comes down to where Ted is watching the launch. After a struggle with the antenna, Laura agrees to hold it in place for him. There are a couple glances, almost as if the two are seeing each other in a whole new light. So, yes, I'm pretty obsessed with this pairing...if you couldn't tell!
Tensions are high on the flight to Hong Kong. Laura and Kate are obviously still angry with each other and Ted and Dean have an issue over a less than stellar landing. Once everyone is off the plane, Ted and Dean get into a heated argument which leaves our pilot with a nice shiner!
Things are semi-wrapped up when they return to New York. Ted sort of apologizes for the shiner and Dean lets him in on the secret of how he jumped the line.
Kate gets a lecture from Richard for being late and explains that it took forever to get his message. He hands her some pictures that Laura had taken of her and Maggie's night out. Richard tells Kate that they are going to have her sister reassigned, but after seeing a photo Laura had taken of her, she tells him no. Before going home, Kate stops to buy a camera for Laura. When she returns home though, Laura is gone.
So where did Laura go? Maggie opens the door to her apartment and we see that Laura is now going to be staying with her.
Again, one of my personal favorites! I'm left wondering, is the hatchet truly buried between Ted and Dean, or will it sprout up again later? Truly, Ted believes that he belongs in that seat. What does Kate think of Laura moving in with Maggie? Will that last? So far, Laura and Maggie seem to have bonded rather well. I think the two are in for tons of fun in future episodes!
And what of Laura and Ted? I still think they are the most adorable pairing to date. :)

To Anyone Who Is Reading So Far
I have two more episodes to catch you up on, which I will probably post tomorrow. From then on out, I will be posting my recaps on Monday evenings (giving everyone a time to catch up...I know we all can't watch Sunday nights!) and then I will try and make some posts during the week, depending on what fun Pan Am stuff I can find and share from the net. Be warned, if you haven't seen the most current episode, my posts will probably spoil it for you, so you should most likely watch it first!

Episode 3: Ich Bin Ein Berliner
Original Air Date: 10/9/11
Okay, this has got to be one of my personal favorites. So many things are going on in this episode, that I'm not even sure where to start!
So, I'll start from the beginning. Seems as good a place as any. Kate has got another assignment! She needs to bring a book back from Germany. The only German I know is the bad words, so couldn't put my knowledge to use here. Haha. But still, Germany is a place I've always wanted to visit. ANYWAY! So, I was like, "um...okay. What is the importance of a book?" I never really did find out what they wanted with it, but oh well. Who are we to question the government?
The rest of the stewardesses are buzzing about Berlin. Everyone seems excited...except Colette. I had my theories (being a WWII enthusiast LOL) because even though the end of the war was almost hitting that 20 year anniversary, wounds take a long time to heal. I mean, I know people who STILL haven't recovered! I can't say I know first hand what Berlin was like in the 60's, but I can't imagine it would be a very joyful place.
There is another cute Dean/Colette moment, but it kind of feels like she's shooting down the idea of their relationship to be anything more than "a moment". It was a cute moment, but perhaps, that's all it was. Maybe...we'll see. I hope there is more of them later!
Maggie is just hilarious in this episode. I can't blame her. Despite my political beliefs, I must say that meeting the President in 2004 was one of the highlights of my life. It's one of those once in a lifetime things that you really just can't pass up if the opportunity arises. So, our Maggie, on a plane full of reporters, goes to work, trying to find that one gem that will get her in with the press. Because she MUST.MEET.PRESIDENT.KENNEDY. I must say, listening to her story about working on his campaign was amusing. She did manage to meet a young (very good looking) reporter named Mike and she begins to work her charms. Needless to say after some finagling, she got her Press Pass.
Kate earned some MAJOR points in my opinion in this episode. As she's getting ready to go into the bookstore, a young woman pulls up and frantically tells her to get in the car. Once inside, the girl tells her that the Secret Police have discovered her and she failed to make the drop. Kate realizes that they probably know her car, so in an attempt to make a run for it, they ditch the car and make their way back to the hotel. Kate is made aware that nothing will be done to help the girl, but she can't accept that, and tries to come up with a plan to save her. However, before she can think of something, Laura comes by so they can leave to go see the President's speech. The German girl tells Kate to go, as the others will suspect something is wrong if she doesn't. Leaving the girl in the room, Kate joins Laura, Colette and Ted to go see the speech.
They are lost in a sea of people, trying to make their way to get a good spot. An elderly gentleman notices them and asks if they are Americans. He takes them to a building where they watch Kennedy's speech from a window. Best seat in the house in my opinion!
We learned in this episode that Colette was three when the Nazi's invaded. She lost her family in the war and has some flashbacks of soldiers storming up the stairs when they were climbing upwards in the building. It was a very powerful moment and a glimpse into some of the horrible things Colette had to endure growing up.
Everyone was moved by the speech. I was actually quite shocked when I saw Ted cross into what Kate referred to as "restricted airspace". He took Laura's hand and they shared a glance. It was really one of those "awe" moments for me. My heart jumped when he tried to kiss her. Of course, Laura turned away and dropped his hand. The "awe" moment had passed. It was the first time I really thought much of the Ted/Laura pairing and I hoped they would revisit that in future episodes.
At this point, Maggie still had yet to meet the President. She is such a smart lady though! She came up with a plan for the girls to get into the party at the U.S. Mission!
Kate uses this as a way to help her German counterpart. She dresses the girl up in her Pan Am uniform and the two join the rest of the group to get in. Dean vouches for the girls and Maggie of course goes into full on President hunting mode. Kate takes the German courier to find someone to help her, a move that saves the girl, but gets Kate reprimanded. I think Kate did the right thing though. It took guts!
A slightly intoxicated (but who can blame her) Colette runs into Dean. She is still very bitter about the war and winds up saying things that needed to be said, but probably shouldn't have been said. After an apology, she sings the German National Anthem. I'm actually surprised she didn't burst into tears before she began, but she muscled through it.
Miss Maggie still has yet to meet the President. He had left the party just before the girls arrived. When she and Laura are at the airport, they spot Air Force One and Maggie knows it's her last chance. She tells Laura to tell the girls she got sick, grabs some Cubans from Ted and is off! In the end, she doesn't MEET him, but gets a wave from the President after he is given the cigars. I guess that was enough for her. She is obviously extremely happy!
There is a bit of tension between Ted and Laura as they arrive home and are welcoming passengers back to New York. He offers her breakfast, but she declines. Ted is clearly hurt, but I have a sneaky suspicion he won't give up so easily! He tells Laura that she is "different from other girls". And this girl was just saying, "AWE!"

Episode 2: We'll Always Have Paris

In this second episode, Colette is stranded on the side of the road, only to be rescued by none other than Dean. They strike up a nice deal, putting her in the driver seat and Dean possibly regretting he gave her the keys?
We come into a weigh in. I love how the show has started off with that so far. The lovely (sarcasm) woman in charge is just SO sweet! (more sarcasm) But this gives us a look into some of the things Pan Am stewardesses had to go through. Now, I think the only people who can get away with weigh ins are the Military. Everywhere else, it's discrimination. I can see their point, but I'm not here to get into a political debate.
Maggie is in trouble at her weigh in for insubordination and then later, for stabbing a passenger with a serving fork. In her defense, he did have it coming for trying to force himself on her! Ted "comes to her rescue" but in her eyes really only makes things worse. (Hey, so, I think Maggie really let him off easy. I would've popped open that emergency excit and let him fall out!)
Laura and Kate are forced to face their mother who has managed to get on their flight. We get some insight on what happened after Laura ran out on her wedding and the conflict between Kate and their mother. What made me smile was the fact that Laura was pretty much certain she'd been disowned, only to be assured that her mother missed her. It's always nice to know that your family doesn't hate you.
Once in Paris, the cuteness between Dean and Colette just gets better. He is looking for Bridget of course, but there is no denying that these two have chemistry. Their dance at the end of this episode is simply adorable and has this girl hoping for more of this pairing! (And the more I watch this show, the more I realize how much I REALLY remembered from 9th Grade French class. More than I thought!)
Ted continues to taunt Maggie until he delivers the final straw, a roll that has been stabbed by a serving fork, just like the man on the plane. (While I find the gesture was funny, it was inappropriate) Maggie let him know that she could handle everything except the fact that he basically made it okay for the man to try it again with another girl. (He did NOT earn any brownie points from me in this episode. I know he probably thought he was doing the right thing, and he DID difuse the situation, but crossed the line when he continued to tease Maggie for most of the episode.)
Kate and her mother deal somewhat with their issues (her mother showed her that she got a passport the same summer Kate became a stewardess, then told her "I need you too"), but before that, Laura has a falling out when she realizes her mother brought Greg, the man Laura was supposed to marry, causing Laura to believe that her mother's only intention was to bring her home. Laura and Greg part ways, with him telling her "Bon Voyage". I have a feeling we will be seeing more of him later though as I don't think Laura is someone he'll be able to get over so easily.
We do see a bit more of Bridget in this episode. She is Kate's contact for her current mission. She tells Kate that she messed up on one of her assignments and for her safety, she was given a new identity and life. Kate now knows what can and will happen if she does not follow her orders, but decides ultimately that she will take on the assignment. (And I think they picked the right girl for the job!)
So, this was another great episode. I especially loved the moments Colette and Dean had. Was that dancing scene not the most adorable ever? Episode One: Pilot

So, the first episode of Pan Am had me hooked. In this episode, we begin to meet our characters.
First thought? Sixty eight cents for a magazine and chewing gum? I was truly born in the wrong decade. :)
It truly was a different world back in the '60's. But I'm not writing this blog for a history lesson.
I think this first episode was a great start to a great show. Everything begins to soar when we meet Laura at her weigh in. Colette comes to her rescue over a pair of pantyhose. We're introduced then to Kate who seems to be taking an assignment, but of course, they don't really divulge what she's doing until later in the show.
Once on the plane, we meet Dean who is a new Captain and taking this new plane on its maiden voyage. A rush for a missing stewardess then brings us Maggie. I knew from the start that Maggie would be one of my favorite characters. She is strong and sassy. What more could you ask from a working woman in the 60's?
Later through the show we get flashbacks into the lives of the crew. We learn that Kate is doing undercover work for the government and that she is on her first assignment. She is also on this flight with her sister, Laura, the newest stewardess. It's revealed that Kate helped Laura run away from her wedding, prompting Laura to decide to become a Pan Am stewardess. There is an obvious sibling tension that plays through the whole episode. Let me just say, that I can relate. I was always under the impression that my sister was "perfect" despite her flaws. I'm not going to get into it here, but let's just say I got over it and we are very close now. But the tension between Laura and Kate really hit home. Kate seems to be annoyed that she is in the position of "sister's keeper" and Laura seems to just be trying to win Kate's approval. It's very clear that they love each other, but in their own way, share a jealousy of one another.
Colette has had what she thinks is the fortune of meeting up with a fling that she had in Rome a few weeks prior. Come to her surprise, he is on this flight with his wife and child. She acts as if it doesn't bother her, but Maggie can see right through it and asks if they should spike his drink or his food. With a smile, Colette tells her "both". Part of me feels bad for the wife, until it is obvious she knows about the affair and tells Colette off. It wasn't as if Colette KNEW the man was married! And she seems genuinely upset to make the discovery. Besides, the wife seems kind of like a bitch.

There isn't much on Maggie's back-story in this episode. It's almost as if she is a bit of a mystery. Her home seems to be full, but not much is said about the other tenants...or guests...not sure which yet! I really can't wait to learn more about her past and present. :)
We briefly get a glimpse of Bridget and Dean. We know that he's asked her to marry him and that she's inexplicably vanished. When they get word that she resigned, he takes it as a sign that it was her way of saying "yes" to his marriage proposal.
Things really start to clear up when we realize that Kate is Bridget's replacement courier. While we are still unsure of what happened to her, Dean realizes that her resignation was not a "yes". We catch sight of her looking sadly at Dean through a window, and then, she is gone again. I have a feeling that though she is gone, she will not be missing from future episodes!
So far, Colette is my absolute favorite. She is beautiful...and though quiet has proven that she can smile even through a personal crisis.
I can't wait to see how this all plays out!

Welcome!
Welcome to the all new Pan Am fan blog! For all those who may wind up reading this, be aware that if you are watching via DVR or On Demand, there MAY BE SPOILERS IN THIS BLOG! I will warn before all spoilers. :)
